    Café Brasil,

    Houston, Texas

Low key, artsy atmosphere. Good coffee. A darn fine place to draw, read a book or just hang out.

  • Demuths Coffee House,

    Bath, England

The best cappucino and lattes around. They do a brilliant hot chocolate with whipped cream and a host of great drinks and food.

  • 1. Terra Fazione,

    Portland, Oregon

Italian run and Italian to the bone. Cut above the other Northwest US cafes in its authenticity. Just real coffee folks, no cafe mochas here

    2. Deux Gros Nez,

    Reno, Nevada

Good frappes, coffee, food and a quirky bicycle motif that carries it along.

  • Shakespeare and His Sister,

    Brooklyn, NY

Decorated with lots of cooper and wrought iron. Board games like checkers and backgammon are available to play while seated in comfy, 'broken-in' club charis. Very different than the Starbuck's and Peet's of the world.

  • Cafe Ursula, Strindberg, Engel or Kappeli,

    Helsinki, Finland

In April, when there is still snow around and the sun appears in the sky, all the Fins come out of their holes, open their jackets and drink coffee at a 'terassi' - nice places to sit outside at the seaside. It is still f... cold, but they don't care. Helsinki has some of the nicest cafes in Europe. Do not try a cappuccino, mokka or hot chocolate - just a pure 'kahvi'.
